Made it!

I made it to California! (I'm on the iPod; ignore the typos)
The flight was really good and went very quickly. I had what I think was the only empty seat next to me! Very lucky!
Unfortunately, things were a bit more dramatic when I arrived. I had my US permanent residency revoked because I had been gone too long. I was whisked off to a room with a bunch of Mexican fujitives! Anyway, the officer I worked with was a very nice lady and it was all over within about 2 hours. I'm just glad to be here. Seeing Kina and co tomorrow at Santa Monica! Will post pictures. Oh, and that crowd will be totally stoked that all 21packets of timtams made it unscathed!
My body clock is struggling to adjust. I'm weerie but awake at 3am.
Tomorrow is going to be the best day ever! I'm just glad it's not May 29th anymore!
Until next time!

My literacy plan is done. Thank goodness.

It's time for bed. Maths will wait for tomorrow.

Unfortunately, my bed looks like this:

However, I look like this:

So, it'll be worth it when I get the stuff off and get to sleep!

For someone who's not even 21 yet, I look like I need to go on '10 years younger in 10 days'.

Goodnight.

What a singer!

Oh, and the 'this weekend' she talks about at the end; I'll be there. :D

So excited.

8:10 am

Aaaaand, I'm up.

4:16am

Still up. Going to bed for probably about 3 hours. Oh, the joy.

I hate you, uni, I really do.

It's raining. I hope that puts me to sleep.

Goodnight!

A pleasant surprise!

So, for the last few months, I have been trying to decide if I was going to buy a new digital camera to take on my trip (a compact one. I'm getting an SLR at the end of the year). I've had my camera since 2005, and it is only 3.2 megapixels. A few months ago, it broke, or, at least, kept stuffing up to the point that I couldn't really use it for more than one photo at a time without having to change the batteries.

My darling best friend Zoe works at Walch Optics, a camera shop in Hobart. They have a technician who fixes cameras, so I asked her to take it to work to see if it could be fixed. She texted me saying that it could be, and that she'd bring it back up. This was all about 4 weeks ago, probably.

My friend Julez's boyfriend's dad (I know, so funny, all the connections) works for Fuji, and I asked Julez if I would be able to get a deal. So, I looked into that, and decided to try and organize a camera through her. Anyway, with all the assignments and what not, it kind of all fell by the way side, and I had figured that I would just either take my newly 'fixed' camera, or borrow Zoe's.

WELL. It turns out that about 5 weeks ago or so, Zoe got in touch with Julez on facebook and asked her to act cool about the camera but let Kris' dad know that it wasn't needed anymore. Not only that, my camera never got fixed. It is now a paperweight.

Zoe, Swifty (who is joining the army in two weeks) and I went to the sushi train in Yorktown Square for lunch today to celebrate our birthdays (although I'm getting her present in the US) and so we could all see each other before I went away and Swifty left for training.

Zoe got me a new camera for my birthday! :D

It's a Canon A480, and very cool. 10 megapixels! It'll run circles around the old one!

Isn't it swish!? I was very surprised! We had talked about what she'd get me for my 21st and I just said that I'd love to have some money to take away with me, but this is even better! She goes "don't think you're getting money aswell, now!"

Here are the first pics I took with it. Ever since Zoe and I went to the sushi trains in Queensland, we have taken honorary 'Asian' shots. We honestly don't mean any disrespect by them, we just think it's cute! :D

Swifty and Zoe

Oooo! Stop! Just let me grab my chopsticks!

There we go! :D

You can expect some good blogs from the US now that I have a lovely camera! Wahoo! Thanks Zoe! (Zoe never reads my blog, but, you know, just in case.) Also, Swifty and Zoe's sister Connie got me a little pouch/bag for it and a 4GB memory card! Yay! I'm a very spoiled girl today. :D

Back to the assignments. Wish me luck.

Under Pressure!

Dear Blog,
I am such a pathetic excuse for a blogger.
Please accept my most sincere apologies.
Love,
Alison.

Hi! I am eating porridge like a little baby. Yum.

Anyone who has ever been 4th year at uni will be able to vaguely understand how it's even sort of possible that I have hardly blogged at all this semester. Of course, someone who HAS been 4th year at uni (in the same course) AND evidently and subsequently has 4 children, a husband, a really leafy front yard, and a gazillion things to do, STILL manages to blog practically every day. My boss, ladies and gentlemen. ;)

I really don't have an excuse good enough. Psychologically, and in real life, perhaps, if things get 'a little too much', I don't really talk about it, so, since life has been nothing BUT 'a little too much', I guess it makes sense that I haven't really blogged! I'm still here, still alive, still kicking, of course! I'm SO excited about my trip. Let me update you:

I'll spend a few days in LA with my cousins, Katie and Daniel, and will also hang out with none other than Kina Grannis and various other Kinerds. So excited. Then I'm flying up to San Jose, where I'll see Katie and Daniel's parents, Kipp and Carolyn, my favorite American uncle and aunt (I wish there was a word like 'grandparents' for uncle and aunt). I'll have a total of 5.5 days in California, and I'm really looking forward to it!

From California, I fly to Indiana, where I'll see my two favorite Butler ladies, Casey (Quesadilla) and Missy. I think Casey and I are going to take a drive to Chicago, too, and that'll be fun, I expect. I really just can't wait to see them! It'll be so weird and funny to see them in their 'natural habitat', instead of them being all the way over here. I've only ever known them here!

After Indiana, I'm flying to Charlotte, North Carolina. It sounds soooo stinkin' corny, but my heart skips a beat when I think about touching down in North Carolina. It is a wonderful, wonderful place, and I cannot wait to hang out there for a while! My good friend Katie is going to pick me up from the airport and drive me to Boone (where I lived) and I will have SO MUCH catching up to do with so many people, it's not even funny! (But I'm sure lots of it WILL be funny!)

I'll spend about 7 or 8 days in Boone (including a trip to Carowinds back in Charlotte/on the border of NC and SC) (apparently Carowinds have a Bondi Beach themed wave park at the moment, fancy that! I only just saw that when I looked up the website for the hyperlink! WELL!) There are some awesome roller coasters at Carowinds, and I CANNOT wait! But, most of all, I'm just excited to drive up on to the Parkway with some good friends on a sunny day, blaring songs like "Since you've been gone" by Kelly Clarkson, and "Daughters" by John Mayer. Does anyone sense a bunch of 21 year old girls who wish they were back in high school? No? Anyone? You know, lots of my friends got their licenses when we were in the 10th grade, so we did lots of Parkway driving. Day and night. LOVE IT. Cannot wait. Life is good in Boone, NC.

From Boone, I'll head down to Raleigh to see my grandparents and other family. I am so excited to see them too. I fly back to LA from Raleigh on June 19th, and from there, I fly home! (Well, to New Zealand, and THEN home!) I'm trekking the world! Aie!

So, if you have any requests for things you'd like me to bring home, LET ME KNOW! I'm making the list!

In other news, here's (what I think is) an awesome photo of my wonderful brother, Gerard. He's in a band called Running With Scissors. They are awesome.

Isn't he handsome!?!?! Love that boy.

Uni is SO SO SO SO SO SO stressful! I have so many assignments and so little time! Getting there! *Sigh* Eye on the prize, Alison, eye on the prize!

Okay, that's all. It's my bedtime. I've been watching the Oprah 20th Anniversary box set collection a fair bit before bed. It's so corny sometimes! I just sit there crying. Such a girl. Who knew!?

Goodnight!
