A pleasant surprise!

So, for the last few months, I have been trying to decide if I was going to buy a new digital camera to take on my trip (a compact one. I'm getting an SLR at the end of the year). I've had my camera since 2005, and it is only 3.2 megapixels. A few months ago, it broke, or, at least, kept stuffing up to the point that I couldn't really use it for more than one photo at a time without having to change the batteries.

My darling best friend Zoe works at Walch Optics, a camera shop in Hobart. They have a technician who fixes cameras, so I asked her to take it to work to see if it could be fixed. She texted me saying that it could be, and that she'd bring it back up. This was all about 4 weeks ago, probably.

My friend Julez's boyfriend's dad (I know, so funny, all the connections) works for Fuji, and I asked Julez if I would be able to get a deal. So, I looked into that, and decided to try and organize a camera through her. Anyway, with all the assignments and what not, it kind of all fell by the way side, and I had figured that I would just either take my newly 'fixed' camera, or borrow Zoe's.

WELL. It turns out that about 5 weeks ago or so, Zoe got in touch with Julez on facebook and asked her to act cool about the camera but let Kris' dad know that it wasn't needed anymore. Not only that, my camera never got fixed. It is now a paperweight.

Zoe, Swifty (who is joining the army in two weeks) and I went to the sushi train in Yorktown Square for lunch today to celebrate our birthdays (although I'm getting her present in the US) and so we could all see each other before I went away and Swifty left for training.

Zoe got me a new camera for my birthday! :D

It's a Canon A480, and very cool. 10 megapixels! It'll run circles around the old one!

Isn't it swish!? I was very surprised! We had talked about what she'd get me for my 21st and I just said that I'd love to have some money to take away with me, but this is even better! She goes "don't think you're getting money aswell, now!"

Here are the first pics I took with it. Ever since Zoe and I went to the sushi trains in Queensland, we have taken honorary 'Asian' shots. We honestly don't mean any disrespect by them, we just think it's cute! :D

Swifty and Zoe

Oooo! Stop! Just let me grab my chopsticks!

There we go! :D

You can expect some good blogs from the US now that I have a lovely camera! Wahoo! Thanks Zoe! (Zoe never reads my blog, but, you know, just in case.) Also, Swifty and Zoe's sister Connie got me a little pouch/bag for it and a 4GB memory card! Yay! I'm a very spoiled girl today. :D

Back to the assignments. Wish me luck.
